FIX IT · CAN'T SLEEP

Can't Sleep

Lying awake doing tomorrow's to-do list in your head is the worst. We built this edit for people who want better sleep without turning bedtime into a second job. Start with a schedule and a cue your brain learns. Add the extras if you want...

The short answer

The basics do most of the work: the same bedtime and wake time, a quiet, cool room, and screens off 30 minutes before bed. A contoured sleep mask, earplugs and a scent cue like pillow spray make those basics easier. Magnesium's sleep evidence is limited. Mouth taping has little proof and real risks for some people.

Can't Sleep, answered.

Is mouth taping safe?
A 2025 review in PLOS ONE of 10 studies found little evidence it helps and flagged a potential asphyxiation risk for people with nasal blockage. If you can't breathe easily through your nose, skip it. If you snore heavily, get checked for sleep apnea first.
Does magnesium help you sleep?
Evidence is limited. A 2021 review of three small trials in older adults suggested it might help people fall asleep a bit faster, but the studies were low quality. Stay within label doses and ask your doctor if you take medication.
What's the best sleep mask for side sleepers?
Look for contoured cups that don't press on your eyes and a slim strap. Contour styles are usually comfier than flat silk if you sleep on your side.
Does pillow spray actually work?
Think of it as a cue. Spraying the same scent at the same time every night teaches your brain that this means bedtime. It's not a sedative.
When should I see a doctor about sleep?
If you've had trouble sleeping most nights for a few weeks, snore loudly, gasp at night, or feel exhausted no matter how long you sleep.
